Why blogging is great for your search engine results.
Blogging regularly can really help with your search engine results. Why? Because by blogging regularly, you increase the amount of content and number of pages on your website.

And search engines love that!
Increasing content and pages is very important to the search engines, particularly Google, because Google wants their users get a good experience from using their search engine. Good experience means that the sites Google pulls up are useful.
So what makes a useful site?
Have you ever searched for something, clicked on one of the websites that came up and landed on a site that only had links, or a site that only had one or two pages? Was that a good experience for you? Most likely not.
Well, Google hates sites like that too, and is trying to eliminate those sites from showing up in their search engine results. Google also hates sites that copy everything word for word from other people's sites.
What's the antithesis of sites like this? Blogs- with original growing content.
When you write a new post to your blog, your blog will "ping", or call the search engines to come and look at your new post. Once the search engines come, they keep coming, until you stop posting. The more frequently you post, the more often they come, even when you don't ping. As long as you link your blog to the rest of your website and vice versa, your whole site will get credit for new content. Your page rank (Google's measure of how important your site is) will rise, and so will your ranking in the search engines.
You want your site and blog to revolve around a central theme, and so your blog posts and general website should mostly reflect that theme, whatever it is- health and wellness, stress reduction, etc. You can use your blog to further clarify the purpose of your site to the search engines by writing about these subjects in the title and body of your posts.
How much should you write in a post? It depends, but in general, the Google search engine likes to see about 300 words or so before it considers the site updated. You can do this in one or two blog posts at a time, but lots of little 20-50 word blog posts are probably harder for an engine to read as an update- especially if the search engine is coming really frequently
Another great result is that more and more readers will find your blog via blog directories and RSS feeds. This will result in more traffic, and will also result in more incoming links to your site- the best reasons for having a blog.
Your page rank and search engine results will improve from regularly posting in your blog. You'll get increased traffic to your site, and you'll get more incoming links from blog directories and people's sites who thought your blog was interesting and put up a link to your site. Even one of these reasons is enough to have a blog somewhere on your website.
The bottom line however, is that you have to write for this to work. Just putting up a blog and letting it die won't accomplish a thing. So next to having great incoming links, having a blog you post original content into regularly is one of othe best things you can do to optimize your site for the search engines.
