Get-rich-quick schemes just make you poorer.

"Wanna get rich quick?"

I just wrote a post on Derek Gehl's discussion board on Facebook about get-rich-quick ideas. I've been seeing tons and tons of these things floating around on Facebook, just taking up space and causing some folks to go offtrack. In the past, I confess that I've been lured in by their song of riches myself, but luckily, I didn't lose much money before I smartened up.

I think everyone instinctively knows that it takes time and effort to build a business, and you can't shortcut your way to the top. In fact, if you fall into the trap of the shortcut, you always wind up the poorer one, and the person you bought that shortcut from just winds up being richer.

Here's the basics you need in place for a business to succeed:

1. A good-quality  product or service that solves a problem or challenge uniquely.

2. A way to reach a market that's willing to buy such a product or service.

3. Good expense management.

4. Consistency and fortitude to help you get through the inevitable tough times, especially at the beginning.

If you can do these things, your business stands a good chance of succeeding. If you even have one thing out of place, your business can't move forward till you fix it.

How's that for a dose of truth? No snake oil here.

I agree on you Sandra..not all things can be achieved right away..you need to work on it first..dedicate your time and effort to make it work.

Absolutely!

There are some very unethical practices going around in social media right now.

It's very important to remember that quality trumps all in the end.

With every unscrupulous tactic going on out there, it's amazing that people are able to cultivate any trust at all over the internet. I think it takes being really up front and giving quality information over time, like you said. In the end, people will be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.
